The Executive Shield

Why Targeted Strikes are the Ultimate Safeguard for American Life and Prosperity

The long-standing executive order prohibiting political assassination is often framed as a rigid barrier to military action, but this perspective overlooks the critical evolution of American self-defense. This prohibition originated in the mid-1970s following a series of congressional investigations, most notably by the Church Committee, which revealed that the U.S. government had been involved in various plots to terminate foreign leaders during the Cold War. In response to these findings, President Gerald Ford signed Executive Order 11905 in 1976, creating the first official ban on the practice. This policy was subsequently reinforced by President Jimmy Carter and finally codified in its most recognized form by President Ronald Reagan in 1981. Specifically, Executive Order 12333, Section 2.11, states that no agency within the intelligence community shall participate in or request any person to undertake activities forbidden by the order, including assassination.

However, when President Trump authorized the removal of high-level regime heads and terror architects, he was operating within a modern legal framework that distinguishes between “assassination” and “targeted killing.” While the executive order prohibits the murder of political figures for purely political purposes, the U.S. government has maintained since 2001 that this does not preclude the use of force against individuals who are deemed lawful military targets. Under the legal framework of the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) and the President’s inherent Article II powers, striking a leader of a terrorist organization or an enemy combatant during an armed conflict constitutes a legal act of military necessity. President Trump’s actions were the lawful neutralization of military targets who were actively engineering the deaths of American citizens, not the clandestine murders described by 1970s-era bureaucracy. These strikes represent a doctrine that rejects sluggish, trillion-dollar ground wars in favor of high-efficiency accountability that stops threats at the source.

Operation Epic Fury: Neutralizing the Nuclear Threat in Tehran

The chronology of these operations reveals a consistent pattern of neutralizing the people who engineer global instability. On February 28, 2026, at approximately 6:43 AM EST, the United States initiated Operation Epic Fury, a massive joint strike targeting the central command of the Iranian regime in Tehran. This mission utilized advanced hypersonic munitions and stealth assets to penetrate one of the most heavily defended airspaces in the world. The strikes successfully leveled the Supreme Leader’s compound, the Ministry of Intelligence, and several clandestine underground facilities dedicated to the regime’s final push for a nuclear arsenal. By removing the clerical leadership that has suppressed over 88 million Iranians and threatened the safety of the world, the operation works to prevent a nuclear-armed dictatorship from holding global energy supplies hostage.

In the immediate aftermath of the strike, the remnants of the Iranian military attempted a desperate retaliation, launching a wave of ballistic missiles and swarming drones toward U.S. assets in the region. However, the coordinated defense of the U.S. and its regional partners intercepted over 98% of these threats, rendering the retaliation militarily insignificant. This failure further eroded the regime’s image of invincibility and signaled the end of its decades-long shadow war. Securing the Strait of Hormuz—the transit point for 21% of the world’s daily petroleum—stabilizes energy prices for every American household, preventing the artificial spikes that historically drain billions from our domestic economy.

The most profound result of this operation is not found in the wreckage of government buildings, but in the streets of Tehran and Shiraz. Reports and viral footage show thousands of Iranians taking to the squares in a state of jubilation, celebrating the end of the Supreme Leader’s reign. For the first time in nearly half a century, the Iranian people are expressing their desire for a future free from theocratic oppression. These crowds have been seen waving symbols of freedom and openly expressing their gratitude for President Trump’s decisive action, viewing him as the leader who finally broke the chains of a regime that had caused them decades of suffering.

Operation Absolute Resolve: Dismantling the Maduro Narcostate

Earlier in this administration, on January 3, 2026, U.S. forces conducted Operation Absolute Resolve in Caracas, Venezuela. Special operations teams extracted Nicolás Maduro and dismantled his high-level security apparatus, which had overseen the collapse of a nation once home to 28 million people. The Maduro regime’s primary export was narcoterrorism and regional migration crises that flooded American cities with illicit drugs and created an unsustainable burden on our border infrastructure. By bringing down this regime head, the administration disrupted the flow of billions in illicit commerce and saved the American taxpayer the vast sums currently spent on domestic social services and law enforcement required to manage the fallout of a criminal state. According to initial energy assessments, the sale of Venezuelan oil has already generated over $1 billion since the capture, with $5 billion expected in the coming months to help stabilize regional markets.

Fragmenting Global Terror: The 2025 Counter-ISIS Campaign

On March 13, 2025, a precision strike in Iraq’s Al Anbar province removed Abdallah “Abu Khadijah” Makki Muslih al-Rifai, the second-in-command of ISIS and its primary financial architect. This followed a year in which the administration conducted 126 operations in Somalia alone, neutralizing nearly 200 militants and protecting the 230 million people of Nigeria from the expansion of jihadist violence. These strikes prevented the radicalization of a massive youth population and stopped the targeting of religious minorities. By neutralizing these commanders, the U.S. prevents the growth of terror networks that would otherwise eventually require the deployment of thousands of American troops and the expenditure of billions in defense budgets.

The Soleimani Precedent: Preempting Regional Escalation

Looking back to the first term, the operation on January 3, 2020, at roughly 1:00 AM local time, remains a pillar of this strategy. The strike against Qasem Soleimani near Baghdad International Airport removed the head of the Quds Force, a man responsible for the deaths of over 600 American service members and the wounding of thousands more via advanced IED technology. Soleimani was the primary engineer of proxy wars that displaced millions and disrupted the trade routes of the Persian Gulf. Intelligence indicated he was planning imminent attacks on four U.S. embassies, a scenario that would have cost countless American lives. By acting decisively, President Trump prevented a massive regional escalation that likely would have cost trillions of dollars in a prolonged conflict.

Eliminating the Caliphate: The Fall of Baghdadi

Similarly, on October 26, 2019, during Operation Kayla Mueller, U.S. Delta Force operators eliminated Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in Barisha, Syria. This operation dismantled the leadership of the ISIS “Caliphate,” which at its peak controlled 42,000 square miles and 7.7 million people. The ISIS regime was a machine of genocide, slavery, and global recruitment for mass-casualty events. The elimination of Baghdadi and his core inner circle saved the world billions in humanitarian aid and military containment costs. By destroying the ISIS central command, the administration ensured that the organization could no longer coordinate the types of large-scale terror attacks that previously required the total mobilization of the U.S. military.

The Legal Reality: Article II and Anticipatory Self-Defense

The legal reality behind these actions is grounded in the inherent powers of the President under Article II of the Constitution and the Authorization for Use of Military Force. These individuals are classified as “unprivileged belligerents” or “enemy combatants” who have renounced the protections of civil law by engaging in unconventional warfare. The Department of Justice maintains that removing a commander who is actively plotting an assault constitutes a legal act of anticipatory self-defense. This doctrine holds that a nation need not wait to be struck before acting to prevent a massacre, provided the threat is credible and the action is necessary. To classify the elimination of a terror leader as an “assassination” would be to grant bad actors a legal immunity that the Constitution never intended them to have.

To begin with first principles. Scripture treats nations as a boundary against the anti-Christ push of one world order. The world citizen sounds good in theory but what it does is consolidate control under one dictatorial regime. The question the left never answers is who will be the one who makes the decisions over billions of lives. If they are willing to hand it over to the conservatives and freedom loving libertarians who just want to be left alone and to manage their own lives, well and good. But bureaucrats, by default, are normally ones who seek out power and end up abusing it.

God gave men free will. But does it mean that he gives you the power to do whatever you want? Or rather what we are given is the freedom to play in a field that is fenced but with a gate to leave if we so choose.

When the people at Babel decided to build a tower in a show of cooperation, it was actually a show of rebellion against God and that is what they chose to do with their God-given freedom. So it was at Babel that He scattered peoples by language. In Acts, Paul stood in Athens and said God determined the periods and boundaries of every nation. A boundary obviously means there are some who belong inside and others who do not. Thus, a nation has a duty to protect its people inside it.

Christians are to be wise and understand the difference between being a good neighbor, and knowing they need to defend their nation's sovereignty.

So a nation is a nation when it keeps its own, whether it is the governmental sovereignty, which translates to securing its borders, and defending itself against foreign enemies. When the third world is invited in, especially, those who have openly said that they hate the country that is welcoming them and the large slice of that population takes more than it gives; we have already surrendered more than we should have. It is sometimes a slow burn when the communities they build do not assimilate but instead seek to create their own enclaves where their members do not see the need to conform to the country but seek to transform it from within. It can be from the wombs of their women, changing the voting demographics to any dangerous ideologies they keep and insist that those around them bow to it.

Stephen Wolfe, in his 2022 book, defines a nation much the same way most of us already live it: a people joined by language, culture, history, memory, and place, acting together for their own good. When millions are invited in, there is really no incentive for them to assimilate. They have their own language, third world culture, historical homeland, non-shared memories and another place they harken to with nostalgia.

After two millennia of not having a homeland, Israel distinctly understood this. Nehemiah defended by rebuilding the wall in Jerusalem with a trowel in one hand and a weapon close by, and he told the people to fight for their brothers, their sons, their daughters, and their houses.

There are evil people who will tear down your culture, and there are people out there who hate you because they have been indoctrinated from birth to do so. Therefore, by defending our borders we are not being unkind but wise. Romans 13 gives the magistrate a sword for a reason: to punish evil and protect the people under his charge. Love of neighbor was never a command for a nation to leave its gate open.

And this is where the left mixes up two different things, on purpose or not. Feeding your close neighbor is your duty. Forgiving a personal insult is your prerogative. Turning the other cheek is a person call to be a human being made in God's image. A ruler, however, holds a different perspective, and Abraham Kuyper, the Dutch theologian and prime minister, mapped this out over a century ago with his spheres: the family runs the household, the church preaches and cares for its people, and the state keeps justice and guards the border. When politicians try to practice private meekness with public force, the people pay for his confusion, usually in blood because power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

From principle to geography. About 20 million barrels of oil move through the Strait of Hormuz every day. That is near a fifth of the petroleum the world drinks daily, and more than a quarter of what travels by sea. A fifth of the world's liquefied natural gas goes through the same water, most of it Qatari, and in 2024 84% of the crude and condensate sailing through went to Asian markets. If we leave that water unguarded then everybody pays at the pump.

Adam Smith made the argument back in 1776 when he defended the Navigation Acts on a single ground: defense comes before opulence. He was not ashamed of putting it that way. Ludwig von Mises, a man the libertarians still quote, said trade rests on peaceful cooperation and war tears that cooperation down. F. A. Hayek added the part the free-trade purists skip: rules between nations are a wish list unless some power exists to enforce them. If America were to walk away, who is it that keeps it open? Tehran? The Houthis? Some committee in Geneva? Again, with what force or persuasion of force will that come from.

The Economic Advantage: Precision Action vs. Forever Wars

Since late 2023 the math went upside down. A Houthi drone costs thousands while the missile we fire at it costs millions: about $2.1 million for an SM-2, about $4 million for an SM-6. By January 2025 the Navy had fired 220 missiles across 380 engagements. Thank God for our domestic military companies such as Anduril who are now producing drones as an offensive.

As Thomas Sowell said, "There are no solutions, only trade-offs." So pay we must for the interceptors and the factories up front, or pay later when our energy supplies are bottlenecked. We need to take note that our U.S. State Department, under President Biden, on November 14, 2024, traced an oil network that moved hundreds of millions of dollars to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force in a single year, with monthly sums flowing to the Houthis.

In the nationwide uprising of January 2026, widespread reports and intelligence leaks did indicate death tolls reaching into the tens of thousands. Investigative reports from outlets such as Time and Iran International, citing leaked government security files and hospital registries, estimated that between 30,000 and 36,500 people were killed during the intense January crackdowns, while independent monitoring groups like HRANA verified thousands of individual fatalities with thousands more remaining under active investigation.

The economic and commerce angle of this strategy is a net positive for every American household. Traditionally, the U.S. has spent over $8 trillion on long-term ground wars. President Trump’s pivot to targeted strikes allows for a significant reduction in the direct cost of military overhead, saving an estimated $1 million per soldier per year that would otherwise be spent on deployments. Furthermore, by keeping shipping lanes open and removing the “risk premium” from global insurance rates, these strikes keep the cost of imported goods low and the American economy stable. Whenever a regime head like Maduro or an architect like Soleimani is removed, the global markets find stability, knowing that the primary drivers of volatility have been erased.

We know from our history such as the April 1988 event, when Operation Earnest Will flew 127 escort missions and shepherded 188 tanker transits through the Gulf, and not one protected vessel was lost to Iranian action. When a mine tore into the USS Samuel B. Roberts, Operation Praying Mantis answered in a single day: Iranian naval craft sunk, two oil platforms destroyed, and the provocations fell off sharply afterward. Reagan stopped once the objective was met. He did not stay to nation-build. He brought our armaments home when the objective was fulfilled.

Another example in history is the Battle of the Atlantic, where every convoy that reached port was making Germany's plan that much less possible, and by May 1943 the campaign had turned. Years of convoy duty, boring and dangerous, beat the U-boat.

At the same time, we have to realize the actors have evolved. They have become more radicalized and richer through their exploitation of the Iranian people and its natural resources. We hear of American citizens who are brainwashed and become homegrown terrorists through the reach of technology and the use of social media.

A Legacy of Strength and Stability

Ultimately, these operations represent the surgical application of force against the “head of the snake,” ensuring that the harms caused by these regimes—mass displacement, human trafficking, narcotics export, and the sabotage of global supply chains—are ended at the source. This is a commitment to the American people to use every legal and tactical tool available to ensure that our nation’s resources are spent on domestic growth rather than the endless management of foreign chaos. By prioritizing the lives of American service members and the stability of the global economy, President Trump has created a world where justice is swift, commerce is protected, and the American family is the ultimate beneficiary.

This video provides an essential breakdown of the joint military operations occurring on February 28, 2026, offering visual context for the strategic shifts discussed in this post.

Ronald Reagan said it for Barry Goldwater in 1964: peace through strength. Victor Davis Hanson puts it in the present form: hit back hard enough that the aggressor pays more than he priced in, and stop there. But no nation-building. A Christian nation guards its borders, its lanes, and its people because God assigned nations their place and their duties.
